A review on the Landau damping and coherent structures in narrow-banded 1+1 deep water gravity waves was presented. The modulational instability in surface gravity waves with random phase spectra was studied. The stability of the narrow-banded approximation of a wind-wave spectrum was also studied. Numerical simulations showed that in the unstable regime, the nonlinear stage of the modulational instability was responsible for the formation of coherent structures.

Abstract
A review on the Landau damping and coherent structures in narrow-banded 1+1 deep water gravity waves was presented. The modulational instability in surface gravity waves with random phase spectra was studied. The stability of the narrow-banded approximation of a wind-wave spectrum was also studied. Numerical simulations showed that in the unstable regime, the nonlinear stage of the modulational instability was responsible for the formation of coherent structures.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
